Instructions
24-48 Hours Prior
We cannot over stress the importance of preparation by the client for a long lasting, even tan. Exfoliation is the most important step to a successful airbrush tan. It ensures an even application, longer lasting result and perfect fade. Exfoliate your skin all over with a scrub or exfoliating gloves. Don’t forget your elbows, ankles, neck, between and under the breasts and underarms! Follow with a light moisturiser.
Avoid all bar soaps (Dove), heavily fragranced or moisturizing body washes with high pH levels. These products can cause a film on your skin.
Any waxing or shaving should be done 24 hours prior to your session. This gives your pores plenty of time to settle afterwards and get the amino acids in your skin back to neuatral.
All manicure and pedicure appointments should be done the day before your session if possible.
Day of Sunless Tan
You should refrain from applying anything to the skin that may act as a barrier between the sunless solution and the skin. For this reason, do not apply lotions, creams, or perfumes prior to session. Also, use deodorant sparingly.
Remove any makeup prior to sunless application. Wipes are provided at TanTale to remove any makeup/deodorant if necessary.
Wear or bring loose fitting, dark clothing and flip-flops, sandals or slippers after your tanning appointment. Bring your swimsuit, underwear or other garments to wear during your session. We also provide disposable G-strings and hairnets for every client. Females can wear as much or as little as they’d like, but male customers are required to wear underwear.
Tight clothing can rub or smear bronzers, especially around the knees, elbows and waist. If it’s raining the day of your session, bring long loose clothing, think hoodie, track pants, pyjama sets are also great for covering up completely, and bring an umbrella! You can park in the driveway and we will walk you out with an umbrella to keep you dry.
After Your Tan
After your tan, do not get wet or sweat during your tan’s development time. Wait 8-24 hours before you do a warm water rinse (unless using a rapid rinse solution). The bronzer will wash off, but your tan will continue to develop and be it’s full colour after 24 hours. Your spray tanning artist will communicate to you what your advised rinse time is.
During development time, avoid skin-on-skin contact so your tan stays exactly where it was sprayed (you may need to sleep in loose PJs if getting a service in the evening).
If you notice any flaws on your skin prior to your warm water rinse, they are likely rubs from clothing or creases from skin folds. Don’t worry, this is normally just the bronzer and should even out after your first warm water rinse. Do not attempt to blend flaws or fix spots.
After that first rinse, you are ready to lotion, exercise and go about your life as normal. However, there are things you should do to prolong your tan:
Use a gentle sulfate-free body wash (no bar soaps). Many of the over the counter products have harsh chemicals and will strip your tan. Do not scrub, exfoliate or wax until you are ready to take the tan off as it will cause the tan to fade more quickly.
The more you moisturize the longer your tan will last. TanTale Sunless carries a great selection of tan extending body cleansers, moisturisers and extenders to enhance your spray tan and make it last longer. These are made specifically for spray tans and will nourish and replenish your skin.
Drink lots of water. Keeping your skin hydrated from the inside out will help you retain the tan longer and will promote more even fading of your sunless tan.
